The first Global Dialogue on AI Governance took place in Geneva on 6 and 7 July 2026. Established by the General Assembly under the Global Digital Compact, it provides a forum for governments and stakeholders to discuss cooperation and governance practices.
The dialogue enables international consultation. Its existence does not mean that a single global regulation has been adopted or that a supranational oversight authority has been created.
Why does this concern our research?
AI systems cross borders, while responsibility and remedies remain largely organised by states. This dialogue offers a setting in which to discuss the relationship between technical capabilities, collective decisions and diverse institutions.
